Pier 8’s skating rink is now open

Turn up the Christmas tunes, grab a cup of hot cocoa, and lace up those skates! What better way is there to get some fresh air during the holiday season than a crisp outdoor jaunt around the rink?

As of December 7th, the outdoor skating rink at Pier 8 is now open to the public!

The Waterfront outdoor rink is open for free skate daily from 10 am to 10 pm. Skate and helmet rentals are available all day on weekends and from 5 pm to 10 pm on weekdays. They go for $9 per pair of skates with safety equipment or $4 for safety equipment alone. There are warm food & beverage options beside the rink as well.

The Pier 8 rink is located at
47 Discovery Dr, Hamilton

If you’d like to check out how busy it is before disembarking from the comfort of your home, you can see camera footage updated every 2 minutes on their live cam.

For those looking to slap around a puck, note that Pier 8 is for pleasure skating only — no hockey permitted. There are a few other outdoor rinks open in the area that allow both pleasure skating and hockey sticks, and those are:

Dundas Driving Park
71 Cross St, Dundas

Waterdown Ice Skating Loop
200 Hamilton St, Waterdown

Freelton Community Park
170 Freelton Road, Freelton

There are no skate rentals available at these spots and lights are out at 11 pm. To keep an eye out for other outdoor rinks opening soon, check the City of Hamilton’s website.
